Linguistic Field(s): Lexicography
Call Deadline: 27-Jun-2012
Meeting Description:
The workshop aims to provide a forum for discussing recent developments and applications of various kinds of lexical-semantic resources including wordnets, ontologies, framenets, electronic dictionaries, internet lexicons and other collaboratively built lexical semantic resources. It is intended as follow-up to a series of thematically related events: GSCL workshops in 2003, 2005, 2007, 2008 and a DGfS workshop in 2006. Lexical-semantic contents serve as valuable sources of linguistic information for research and applications in natural language processing. Recent years have seen different kinds of efforts to enhance the usability of these resources. Successful attempts to integrate and merge lexical resources have led not only to the mapping of lexical databases of the wordnet and framenet type but also to the creation of online dictionary networks of different sorts. Enhancing usability also means to provide data for the human user by new sophisticated access interfaces as well as to make these data available for different kinds of NLP applications. In addition, with the increase of statistical methods in linguistics, these resources have also become more and more interesting for various research issues. The methods to achieve this rise in functionality and usability of lexical resources will be a major topic of the workshop.
Call for Papers: In general, papers on the design, construction, extension, maintenance, merge and validation of lexical-semantic resources and their application in linguistic research as well as natural language processing can be submitted. Contributions reporting on ongoing projects and initiatives to build new resources are also welcome. We particularly encourage submissions addressing the following topics: - Merging of different lexical-semantic resources, such as wordnets, framenets and ontologies - Approaches and architectures for Internet lexicography, in particular for dictionary nets - Methods to extend the functionality of lexical resources - Automatic acquisition and extension of lexical-semantic and ontological resources by corpus-based methods or by exploiting other machine-readable knowledge sources - Use of lexical-semantic resources in theoretical/ linguistic studies, in particular applications of statistical methods - Design and development of lexical-semantic resources - Creation of special purpose lexical-semantic resources such as domain-specific resources, valency lexicons, neologisms resources, MWE lexical resources - Multi- and interlinguality of lexical-semantic and ontological resources - Applications of semantic lexicons and ontologies in all sorts of NLP-based information systems and their evaluation - Meta-data approaches and standardization efforts for integrating different semantic and ontological resources - Metalexicographical issues such as comparing lexicons and representations of lexical-semantic information Submission Information: Please submit full papers in English of 4-8 pages + references. All papers will have to be submitted in PDF format via the conference management system Easy Chair. Details will be provided on the workshop website closer to the submission deadline. Accepted workshop contributions will be published in the KONVENS conference proceedings. The formatting guidelines are available at the main conference website: http://www.oegai.at/konvens2012/cfp.shtml Important Dates: Paper submission deadline: 27 June 2012 Notification of acceptance: 27 July 2012 Camera-ready deadline: 27 August 2012 Program Committee: Hans Boas (Austin) Kurt Eberle (Heidelberg) Christiane Fellbaum (Berlin, Princeton) Lothar Lemnitzer (Berlin) Carolin Müller-Spitzer (Mannheim) Sanni Nimb (Copenhagen) Rainer Osswald (Düsseldorf) Uwe Quasthoff (Leipzig) Bolette Sandford Petersen (Copenhagen) Angelika Storrer (Dortmund Marko Tadíc (Zagreb) Organizers: Stefan Engelberg (Mannheim) Claudia Kunze (Langenfeld) Contact details are provided on the workshop website: http://www1.ids-mannheim.de/lexik/home/lexiktagungen/workshop-lexical-resources/
