We are happy to announce the availability of a new version of GermaNet (release 7.0). GermaNet is a lexical-semantic net that relates German nouns, verbs, and adjectives semantically by grouping lexical units that express the same concept into synsets and by defining semantic relations between these synsets. GermaNet has much in common with the English WordNet (http://wordnet.princeton.edu) and can be viewed as an on- line thesaurus or a light-weight ontology. GermaNet has been developed and maintained within various projects by the research group for General and Computational Linguistics (Director: Prof. Dr. Erhard Hinrichs) at the University of Tübingen since 1997. The four most important extensions to this GermaNet release compared to the previous release are: 1: New synsets and lexical units for all word categories, and new relations were added. 2: The Interlingual Index (ILI) which was initially created in the context of the EuroWordNet project represents a mapping between wordnets of different languages. The German part of the ILI has been revised and extended and it has been integrated in GermaNet release 7.0. For detailed information see http://www.sfs.uni- tuebingen.de/GermaNet/ili.shtml 3: GermaNet senses have been mapped to Wiktionary sense descriptions with the goal of extending senses in GermaNet (lexical units) with the respective descriptions from Wiktionary. Please see http://www.sfs.uni-tuebingen.de/GermaNet/wiktionary.shtml for further information on this mapping/extension. 4: The internal working copy of GermaNet is maintained in a relational database (PostgresSQL). A dump of this database is now available to all customers as part of this GermaNet release. Find more information about GermaNet's database format at http://www.sfs.uni- tuebingen.de/GermaNet/database.shtml For information about technical details and licensing, please consult the project home page: http://www.sfs.uni-tuebingen.de/GermaNet/
