Call for Papers 'Translation' In its next issue Arena Romanistica wishes to focus on translation. A major development in Translation Studies in recent years is the way translation scholars have challenged the traditional view that a translation is an inferior copy of the original. The old terminology of faithlessness, betrayal and loss has been contested. Jorge Luis Borges once wrote that it is the translator's 'infidelity, his happy and creative infidelity, that must matter to us'. What does such a radical notion imply for the evaluation of translations and for the translator's perception of his or her task? Arena Romanistica invites scholars to reflect on the 'creative infidelity' of translators, on what is found or gained in translation, rather than on what is lost, betrayed or unfaithfully rendered. Possible topics include, but are not limited to, the following: - the ethics of translation; - theory of translation; - practice of translation; - translation quality assessment; - reception studies; - co-translation or joint translation; - self-translation; - adaptation or intersemiotic translation (Jacobson), i.e. interpretation of verbal signs by means of nonverbal signs We welcome contributions from the field of linguistics, literature, film and cultural studies in both Romance languages and English. All contributions should have some connection to Romance studies. Stylesheet and submission procedures are available at our website: http://arenaromanistica.uib.no/ For further information: arenaromanistica uib.no
