Applications are invited for a full time postdoctoral researcher position in the Department of Linguistics at Stanford University, with a start date of October 1, 2012. Review of applications will begin promptly on July 1, 2012 and continue until the position is filled. The postdoctoral researcher will assist in setting up an interactional sociophonetics laboratory and collaborate with Dr. Rob Podesva on research examining voice quality variation in conversation. The ideal candidate will have expertise in one or more of the following areas: - The phonetics of voice quality - The interface between phonetics and discourse analysis - Gesture and interaction - The use of video data in linguistics research Primary responsibilities include collaboratively planning and conducting research projects, publishing findings in peer-reviewed journals, and actively participating in laboratory operations and meetings. Additional responsibilities include setting up laboratory equipment and collecting a corpus of high-quality audio and video recordings of interaction. Proficiency in acoustic analysis, Praat scripting, video analysis software, and statistics is desired; English proficiency is required. Applicants must have a PhD in Linguistics, Speech and Hearing Science, Linguistic Anthropology, or a related field. The doctorate must be in hand by the start of the appointment. The initial appointment is for twelve months, with a salary of $43,500, plus benefits. The appointment may be renewable for a second year subject to satisfactory performance and availability of funding.
