University or Organization: University of Botswana, Faculty of Humanities Department: African Languages and Literature Job Location: Gaborone, Botswana Web Address: http://ub.bw Job Rank: Senior Lecturer/Lecturer Specialty Areas: General Linguistics; African Languages Description: Vacancy No H/ALL 1/2012: Senior Lecturer/Lecturer in the Department of African Languages and Literature Duties: The successful candidate will be expected to teach Linguistics courses at various levels of the Department's academic programmes (which include BA and MA degrees) and perform other duties that may be assigned by the head of the department. The candidate is also expected to contribute to the academic standing and good reputation of the department of African Languages and Literature by engaging in research, publications and/or external professional activities. Requirements: Senior Lecturer; the candidate should possess (i) a Masters degree in African or general linguistics, the possession of a PhD would be an added advantage; (ii) at least 3 years of teaching experience at university or equivalent institution (iii) expertise in teaching and research in some of the following areas: Translation/interpretation, Lexicography and Term development (iv) a minimum of 6 pieces of published research (e.g books, book chapters or journal articles), at least 4 of these should be refereed journal articles, lead or single author in at least 2; (v) the candidate should demonstrate evidence of sustained research output; (vi) evidence of service to the university, the profession and the community (vii). The curriculum vitae should contain a detailed list of published works, clearly specifying titles of publications, dates published, names of publishers, name/s of co-authors and number of pages. (viii) Knowledge of Setswana or any African language will be an added advantage. Lecturer; the candidate should possess (i) MA in African or general linguistics, the possession of a PhD would be an added advantage; (ii) teaching experience at university or equivalent institution would be an added advantage (iii) expertise in teaching and research in some of the following areas: Translation/interpretation, Lexicography and Term development (iv) evidence of engagement in research and service (iv) Knowledge of Setswana or any African language will be an added advantage.
