The Uppsala University in Sweden is looking for a full professor of linguistics.
DUTIES:
Overarching responsibility for research and third-cycle (doctoral) education in
the subject area as well as for the further advancement of the subject area.
Teaching and supervision in courses and programmes at all levels. Own
research. Information on research and developmental work and participation
in planning research projects. Planning (including seeking research funding),
management, and participation in research projects. Collaboration with other
higher-education institutions and other subject areas as well as public
authorities and other stakeholders. Development of national and international
networks. Assignments of an administrative nature. Management
assignments may also occur.
ASSESSMENT CRITERIA:
In assessing academic competence, academic quality will be given the
highest priority. Consideration will also be given to the scope of research,
primarily in terms of depth and breadth. Further, consideration will be given to
the capacity to plan, initiate, direct, and develop education at the third cycle,
the ability to obtain research funding in competition, and the demonstrated
capacity to interact both within the academic community and with the wider
community.
In assessing academic competence, very great attention will be paid to
excellence in the field of linguistics. Other qualifications being equal, special
emphasis will be given to research in one or more of the research fields of
multilingualism, grammar (morphology and syntax), historical linguistics,
corpus linguistics, language documentation, language learning, language
contact and/or language typology. If qualifications are still judged to be equal,
breadth within the above-enumerated fields will be accorded weight.
Equal care will be devoted to the consideration of teaching competence as
academic competence.
In assessing teaching competence, the quality of teaching shall be given
primary consideration. Further, consideration will be given to the capacity to
plan, initiate, direct, and develop education and teaching, as well as the
ability to link education to research on the basis of research findings in the
relevant subject, in subject-matter education, and in tertiary-level education.
Teaching competence also includes the ability to interact regarding tertiary-
level education issues with actors inside and outside the University.
