Meeting Description:
The Linguistic Society of PNG is pleased to announce its annual conference to be held at SIL-PNG’s New Training Centre, Ukarumpa, on 25-27 September 2012. The goal of this year’s LSPNG Conference is to provide a venue for presentation of the best current research on Austronesian and Papuan languages, linguistics and literacy and to promote collaboration and research in these areas. Please note the charges below for food and accommodation. The New Training Centre is a beautiful place with modern, dormitory-style housing and cafeteria and complete classrooms. Wireless internet access is available across the campus (for extra charge). Costs for the LS PNG Conference are as follows: Registration fee - K50 per person; K20 for students Food - K287 (This includes 2 teas per day and 3 days of 3 meals per day (Tuesday through Thursday), plus supper on Monday night and breakfast on Friday morning. Please contact Ray Stegeman if you plan to stay for a longer or shorter time.) Accommodation - K30 per person per night for double occupancy; K60 per person per night for single occupancy. These are dormitory-style rooms with common toilet/shower facilities. There will be separate dormitory buildings for men and women. Travel costs - mission aviation with SIL, Pt. Moresby to Aiyura, with free bus service to the Ukarumpa Training Centre; K510 one way. SIL has flights only on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, so you would want to fly up on Monday, 24 September and fly back on Friday, 28 September (SIL aviation requires that you inform them of any changes in your travel plans at least 4 days in advance, to get a full refund.) The SIL option is more expensive (but more convenient) than booking a flight with Air Niugini (about K490, return) or Airlines PNG (about K790, return) on the internet, Pt. Moresby to Goroka, and then take a 2-hour PMV (public motor vehicle) ride from Goroka to Ukarumpa, that costs about K11.50, one way. We can help you with booking the SIL flights; just send an email to lr-linguistics sil.org.pg. We will need to book you no later than 1 month in advance, so please let us know early. The University of Goroka will be arranging ground transport for its staff/students from Goroka to Ukarumpa and return, so you can contact Dr. Friedel Frowein at froweinf uog.ac.pg to ask about those details. We will be asking you to send an electronic transfer of funds in advance of the Conference. Please follow the advice below. Please notice the dates by which you must pay for registration and accommodation and meals. More details regarding payment and registration will be posted at the LLM website later. Please contact Ray Stegeman at lr-linguistics sil.org.pg for more specific information on registration and in-country travel recommendations.
