The teaching of modern languages in Zambia is undergoing profound changes in response to cultural, social and political developments. African languages continue to acquire greater recognition as seen in translation of various official documents, notably the recent Draft Constitution. At the same time, English is perceived as language of international communication. French continues as the leading foreign language in the country. However, the successful introduction of Chinese and pressure to include German and Portuguese in the school curriculum are raising prospects for the teaching of modern languages in the country. These developments call for analysis, debate and reflection. Hence, the need for this book project. Papers concerning any aspect of the teaching of modern languages in Zambia by language practitioners, such as educators and writers will be considered for publication as book chapters. Language requirements: Abstracts: English (US) and French (France) Book Chapters: English (US) or French (France) Page length requirements: Abstracts: One page (circa 100 words) Book Chapters: 9 pages Formatting requirements: Prospective authors must format their contributions according to Instructions for Authors document.
