Role: Signal Processing Researcher Location: Marlow or Cambridge, United Kingdom REF: 8058 Job Description: We are looking for a highly motivated and well qualified DSP research engineer specialising in speech and audio signal processing. The researcher will investigate and develop novel techniques for prcessing audio signals (telephony and multi- channel) with the aim of identifying various characteristics but also to improve human intelligibility and ASR accuracy. Responsibilities Include: - Assisting in defining and conducting, independently and with others, appropriately targeted scientific research and development - Assisting in formulating relevant and timely R&D goals - Maintaining awareness of the state-of-the-art by performing literature reviews - Defining and applying appropriate evaluation methodologies for signal processing algorithms and methods - Developing, investigating and evaluating relevant DSP algorithms and assessment of alternative approaches - Prototyping and providing productization support for signal processing technology Skills and Experience Required: - To be able to build on and extend your extensive existing knowledge/background of speech and audio processing technology - To be able to contribute value in formulating and addressing research requirements to meet dynamic and challenging needs of the company - To be able to investigate, develop, apply and evaluate DSP algorithms and methods, including signal processing, signal analysis and classification with particular emphasis on speech and audio signals, independently and working with others - To be able to analyse and/or maintain existing software and to be able to develop, validate, document and maintain new software by employing professional software engineering skills, practices and tools including languages of MATLAB, C and C++ - To be able to design, execute, document and deduce conclusions from experiments involving signal processing of appropriately chosen test data - To be able to communicate effectively, concisely and with technical rigour in written and oral forms and in presentations Desired Skills: - Experience working with voice in telecommunications applications - Expertise in one or more of the following scientific areas: machine learning, statistical modelling, multi-channel speech processing, acoustic signal processing, speech quality and intelligibility, automatic speech recognition - Knowledge and experience of Linux shell scripts - Fluent in a second, non-English language - MSc, PhD preferred We offer a competitive compensation package and a casual yet technically challenging work environment.
