The Department of Linguistics at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level. The department is seeking applications from candidates whose primary research area is formal syntax. We welcome candidates with a secondary strength in an area that interfaces with syntactic theory. The successful candidate will contribute to existing strengths in the department but will also add to those strengths in new and substantive ways. He or she will also contribute breadth and depth to the undergraduate and graduate curricula. The department has Ph.D. and M.A. programs in formal and experimental linguistics focused on phonetics, phonology, syntax, psycholinguistics, and semantics. It also sponsors two undergraduate majors. The campus is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through their research, teaching, and service. Rank: Assistant Professor (tenure-track) Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. in Linguistics or a closely related field in hand by September 2013, and demonstrated record of excellence in research and potential for university teaching. Position Available: July 1, 2013, with academic year beginning September 2013. Position contingent upon final budgetary approval.
