The "Dictionary of the Great Andamanese Language" by linguistics professor Anvita Abbi is discussed. The Great Andamanese languages came to the forefront of mainstream news when it was widely reported by BBC and other news outlets that Boa Sr., the last speaker of the Aka-Bo language, died in January 2010. The entire family is "extremely ancient" having remained in its relatively homogenized form for many thousands of years. All the languages are extinct or nearly extinct.
