Description:
The MA in TESOL Program at the American University in Cairo anticipates one opening for a specialist to teach and do research in any of the following areas: Psycholinguistics, Sociolinguistics (with a cross- linguistic emphasis), Second Language Acquisition, Computer-Assisted Language Learning (CALL) and Corpus Linguistics. Secondary focus would also be desirable in any of the following areas: English grammar, online learning and teaching, intercultural communication, teaching English to young learners, and in any of the traditional ESL skill areas. Experience or interest in community-based learning would be an asset. The position primarily involves teaching in the MA in TESOL program with limited undergraduate teaching, and maintaining an active research agenda.
Requirements for the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, tenure
track: A Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Applied Linguistics, TESOL or a related field.
Successful candidates should have an ongoing program of research and a
demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching. Experience teaching
MA-level TESOL and EFL/ESL courses is desired. Responsibilities include
graduate and possibly some undergraduate teaching; maintenance of an
ongoing research agenda; supervising master's theses; and service to the
Department and the University.
