Full Title: International Journal of the Sociology of Language
Call Deadline: 31-Dec-2012
The International Journal of Sociology of Language (IJSL) is calling for papers for a special issue dedicated to analyzing in detail the dynamics of communicative practice, language ideologies, and intercultural and transnational conflict in Hispaniola.
Some of the central questions specifically addressed in this issue include: 1) how are languages and linguistic practices inserted in the general relations of power in the island?; 2) what are the politics and consequences of language education in the Dominican Republic?; 3) what are the political consequences of language contact in marginalized communities and transnational areas such as SamanĂ¡ (a historically multilingual area), or the border?; 4) what is the history and current state of language policies and ideologies in Haiti?; and 5) how do language ideologies contribute to the representation of differences and contact between languages and to the preservation of power regimes? The prospective issue will reflect a collective and interdisciplinary effort that engages critical theories of language and discourse and combines diverse methodologies.
All papers will be submitted to a peer review process. Those interested in contributing should initially submit a title and an abstract (200 words) with three keywords. The deadline for submitting papers (7,500 words + bibliography) to the issue editor is December 31, 2012 at the following email address: valdezjuan158 gmail.com. For a style sheet consult the following site: http://www.degruyter.com/view/j/ijsl. Please forward this call for papers to any interested colleagues.
