Description:
The Department of World Languages and Cultures in the College of Arts and Sciences at American University invites applications for a one-year renewable position as Associate Coordinator of Language Instruction as a Professorial Lecturer beginning fall (August) 2013. Applicants should hold a PhD in Applied Linguistics, Second Language Acquisition or a modern foreign language; have a minimum of three years experience coordinating language programs; have a minimum of three years teaching language at all levels; demonstrate native or near-native fluency in a foreign language, preferably Spanish or French; possess knowledge of computer-integrated language learning methods, a demonstrable service orientation, and strong interpersonal and communication skills. Responsibilities include assisting tenure-line faculty and working with adjuncts and term faculty in WLC to ensure the smooth functioning of the 3-year language sequence, as well as the shorter sequence of less- commonly taught languages, during the academic year and the summer session. The person in this position will be largely responsible for hiring and managing adjunct faculty. The teaching load is one course per semester. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
