Specialty Areas: Computational Linguistics

We are looking to appoint a postdoctoral research fellow to work in the
area of intelligent user interfaces. The research fellow will contribute
mainly to two Hub projects. These are a project (CURIOS) allowing people to
explore the cultural heritage of a rural community and a project (MinkApp)
to motivate volunteer wildlife observers by giving imaginative feedback on
their observations. In both of these, initial work has developed basic
interfaces using natural language generation (NLG) to create material to be
shown to users. However, further work is needed to embed this within more
sophisticated interfaces, make refinements and to evaluate the use of these
interfaces with users.

The successful candidate will have experience designing, building and
evaluating user interfaces, knowledge of the principles of human factors
and HCI, knowledge of natural language processing techniques and an
interest in working on natural language generation. The candidate will have
a PhD or be about to complete a PhD in Computer Science/Artificial
Intelligence or a relevant discipline. Enthusiasm for digital technology
and innovation relevant to society and the economy is essential as is the
ability to work in a cross-disciplinary team including colleagues in social
sciences. Good ability to read and write in more than one natural language
would be an advantage.

As this post is externally funded it is available for a period of two years
but cannot extend beyond the end of September 2014.

When accessing the application URL below, select "external applicants" and
then search for the post with the reference number 1275291.
