Description:
Position Description: Reporting to the Chair of the Department of Writing and Linguistics, the Assistant Professor of Writing and Linguistics position requires teaching, service, and research responsibilities as well as a terminal degree. The successful candidate will teach three courses per semester with primary assignment in ESL and Applied Linguistics (second language teaching and learning; English as an International Language). This candidate is able and willing to teach graduate and undergraduate courses in Applied Linguistics as well as First-Year Writing. S/he is expected to advise students in the Writing & Linguistics major, the linguistics minor, and the graduate online certificate in TESOL/Applied Linguistics. Peer-reviewed research publications are to be delivered in accordance with the standards of the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences to obtain at least 'research-active' classification. Service on university committees is to be performed commensurate with the expectations of academic rank. The position is a 9-month, tenure-track appointment, and the salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. Required Qualifications: -Earned doctorate in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, or Linguistics by August 1, 2013 -Scholarly agenda in the area of TESOL/Applied Linguistics -At least one year of part-time college-level teaching experience (graduate assistant teaching experience is permissible) Preferred Qualifications: -Evidence of demonstrated excellence in teaching at the college level or two or more years of college-level teaching -Peer-reviewed publications in TESOL/Applied Linguistics or Linguistics -Experience developing and teaching online courses and programs -Experience teaching first-year writing -Experience teaching English in an international context, preferably outside the U.S.A. and anglo-phone Canada
