International Conference on Language Proficiency Testing in the Less Commonly Taught Languages August 17-18, 2012 The Imperial Queen's Park Hotel, Bangkok, Thailand Organized by Sirindhorn Thai Language Center, and Faculty of Arts, Chulalongkorn University For more information and conference updates, please contact: Website: http://www.stc.chula.ac.th/Conference.html Email: lctltesting gmail.com Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/LCTL2012 The Sirindhorn Thai Language Center at Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Thailand is organizing the international conference on 'Language Proficiency Testing in the Less Commonly Taught Languages' to commemorate the 84th Birthday of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, whose concern for the use of Thai language with carefulness and competence has been widely known among Thai people. The main goal of the conference is to promote the understanding and the use of language proficiency testing among Thai language professionals and to provide avenue for conference participants to exchange knowledge and experience in language instruction and language proficiency testing. The conference also aims to bring together language teachers, educators, administrators and other stakeholders especially in the Less Commonly Taught Languages to discuss, share research, theory, and best practices on current language proficiency testing, language teaching of the LCTL, both for native and non-native speakers. For the purposes of this conference, a less commonly taught language is defined as any of the world's languages except English, French, German and Spanish. Bachman (Title to be announced) Professor Carl Falsgraf, 'Language Proficiency Testing for Non-Natives' Professor Paul Nation, 'Measuring Vocabulary Size' Professor Dr. Pranee Kullavanijaya, 'The Sirindhorn Thai Language Proficiency Test' Dr. Debi Jaratjarungkiat, 'Language Proficiency Testing for Natives' Registration Fees: Early Bird registration fees by May 31, 2012: International delegates: US $200 International students: US $100 Thai delegates: Baht 3,500 Thai Students: Baht 2,000 Registration fees from June 1, 2012 to July 16, 2012: International delegates: US $250 International students: US $150 Thai delegates: Baht 4,000 Thai Students: Baht 2,500 The registration fee covers participation in the Conference, including the conference package and proceedings, as well as lunches, coffee break, and the welcoming reception.
Call for Papers: Topic Areas: The following topics are areas for proposals. However, focuses must be on the less commonly taught languages. Tasks in Language Proficiency Tests Authenticity in Language Testing Innovation in Language Testing Test Validation Abstracts: The presentation is expected to be in language testing of the less commonly taught languages for native and non-native speakers. The abstract (in English only) of about 500 words (of 'Time New Roman' in size 12 font) should include: - Name/s and affiliation of the presenter/s - Title of presentation - Purpose of the study - Methods of the study - Summary of findings - A brief list of references All abstracts will be peer-reviewed by the academic committee. Notification about the final format of the presentation will be sent along with the notification of acceptance.
