Job Title: Applied Linguistics Assistant Professor (2 positions) Department: English Position Number: F12/13-014 Closing Date: Open until filled Scope of Job: The University of Texas - Pan American (UTPA) seeks two assistant professors of Applied Linguistics, one with SLA/TESL focus and the other with English Linguistics focus, for graduate and undergraduate programs in applied linguistics, linguistics, language studies and teaching English as a second language. For English Linguistics Focus: Applied emphasis in English grammar, history of the English language and dialects, and/or theoretical emphasis in syntax. For SLA/TESL Focus: Applied emphasis in second language acquisition theory and practice and possible theoretical emphasis/interest in phonology, semantics or pragmatics. Required: Education: PhD in Applied Linguistics, English linguistics or a closely related field required by August 2013. Graduate coursework in both theoretical and applied areas of linguistics Experience: Demonstrated evidence of and potential for continuing scholarship in an area of Applied Linguistics and/or English Linguistics Preferred: Experience: Substantial experience working with diverse student populations, teaching ELLs, developmental writing and/or reading Other: Interest in online delivery and program development Other Information: For more information about our department please visit our website: (http://www.utpa.edu/dept/english).
