Description:
Texas Tech University's Department of English invites applications for a
tenure-track Assistant Professor in Linguistics with specialization in
Phonology. The area of specialization within Phonology is open. Additional
areas of expertise within Linguistics are desirable to support departmental
and interdisciplinary certificates as well as graduate and undergraduate
degree programs. Ph.D. required by starting date.
The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses,
serve on thesis and dissertation committees, provide service to the
department, the college, and the university as necessary, and pursue
scholarship or creative activity that attracts outside funding. 2/2 course
load guaranteed during first two years; then 3/3 with opportunities for
reduction to 3/2.

The Department of English at TTU is large (50 tenure-line faculty, 400
undergraduate majors, 150 graduate students), dynamic, and diverse, with
four undergraduate divisions, two masters, and two doctoral programs.
Opportunities exist for collaboration with linguists in other departments
across the university as well as with colleagues in English. A
recently-constructed building provides state-of-the-art classrooms. Texas
Tech is a growing university system, encompassing in Lubbock a complete
Health Sciences Center with a Medical School; a Law School; a Graduate
School; and Colleges of Arts and Sciences, Agriculture, Architecture,
Business Administration, Engineering, Human Sciences, Mass Communication,
