Required Qualifications: -Master's degree in a field relevant to Language Centers including English as a Second Language, Second Language Acquisition, Foreign Language and Instructional Technology. -Four years of directly related full time experience. -Ability to demonstrate an understanding of language learning methodology and pedagogy, have strong management skills, and the ability to work independently. -Broad background in instructional technology and its applications to language learning and teaching. Experience with web page creation and maintenance, digital video recording, PC's and Macs. Preferred Qualifications: -PhD in field relevant to Language Centers. Brief Description of Duties: The Technical Director of the Language Learning Research Center (LLRC) will have strong management skills in order to oversee the supervision and day-to-day management of the Center including supervision of staff and of Center resources. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining, advising, guiding and implementing the technological needs of the Center so that it fulfills its service, teaching and research missions. S/he will have knowledge of digital technology including web page creation and maintenance (HTML, CSS, JavaScript content management) and digital video. S/he will have knowledge of and experience with the application of instructional technology to language learning and teaching. S/he will work on grant writing to include identifying outside funding sources. -Supervise the center and employees to include: prioritizing and assigning work; conducting performance evaluations; ensuring staff is trained; and making hiring, termination and disciplinary recommendations. -Develop, implement, and evaluate center policies, procedures, strategies, work standards and goals; maintain, update, and ensure procedural compliance for mandated programs. -Research, analyze, and make recommendations to the Research Director and the LLRC Steering Committee for cost effective improvements in the budget or center operations; design, administer, and evaluate center programs and services. -Provide advice in area of expertise, i.e, educational technologies, to faculty, staff and students; serve on a variety of advisory bodies representing the LLRC. -Facilitate, lead, and/or participate in meetings and committees; represent the LLRC and Stony Brook University at meetings and national conferences; serve as a liaison between departments, external organizations, the Stony Brook community, and other campus agencies. -Direct the efforts of the LLRC support units and consultants through various phases of special projects for the improvement of the center. -Direct and participate in the preparation of the center budgets, financial reports, and operational and capital improvement budgets; monitor expenditures. -Grant writing, including identifying outside sources of funding.
