This one day event provides an excellent opportunity for postgraduate researchers to introduce their ideas to a wider audience and to exchange views with others. The conference will be opened by a brief introductory lecture by Sara Mills (Sheffield Hallam University) and Daniel Z. Kadar (The University of Huddersfield). The conference is a strictly non-profit event, and so there is no participation fee. However, due to this we are also unable to offer catering services for the participants, who will all be welcomed for an informal lunch at a nearby restaurant on a self-paid basis.
Call for Papers: Submissions for 20 minute papers/or posters are invited in the following areas: - Innovative approaches to the analysis of politeness - Intercultural and cross-cultural politeness research - Conventions, rituals, and politeness - Gender and politeness - Politeness in different times and contexts - Politeness and computer mediated communication This is not an exclusive list and every interesting proposal will be considered for inclusion. Interested applicants are requested to submit a 300 words abstract with 3 keywords to the following email address: postgradpoliteness gmail.com The deadline for submissions is 5 November 2012. Submissions will be evaluated by members of the Centre for Intercultural Politeness Research, and you will be informed of our decision as soon as possible. There will be a poster session, if there are sufficient numbers of poster applications. Papers for the Postgraduate Conference will be considered for publication in a special issue of Linguistics Applied, a peer-reviewed international journal; this special issue will be edited by Daniel Kadar and Sara Mills.
