Meeting Description:

The Department of Serbian Language and Linguistics, University of Novi Sad, Serbia, in cooperation with the Department of Slavonic Studies, University of Regensburg, Germany, will host a three-day workshop on diachronic Slavonic syntax, with special reference to the language contact vs. internal factors.

The workshop is dedicated to the study of the causes and mechanisms of syntactic change in Slavonic languages, with special reference to internal vs. contact-induced factors, and their interplay in the process of syntactic change. Its aim is to promote recent developments in the field, both theoretical and methodological, as well as dialogue between different theoretical approaches and linguistic schools.

We are pleased to announce that the following keynote speakers have confirmed their participation at the Conference:

Philip Minlos (Moscow)
Michael Moser (Vienna)
Björn Wiemer (Mainz)

Call for Papers:

The workshop welcomes presentations including the following topics:

- Syntactic change under contact conditions in Slavonic: structural convergence, borrowing, shift-induced interference
- Internally motivated syntactic change in Slavonic
- The relation of internally motivated and language contact factors in syntactic change in Slavonic

We especially welcome empirical contributions based on data from diachronic corpora.

The languages of the conference are English and Russian.

Contingent upon review and acceptance by the academic committee, papers from the conference will be published.

Abstract submissions should be sent via email to dssl2nsgmail.com by February 1, 2013. Abstracts should be no more than a single page in length, including the bibliography. We invite abstracts for 20 minute talks (plus 10 minutes for discussion).

April 1, 2013: Notification of acceptance
October 12-14, 2013: Workshop
