Assistant Professor in English Linguistics (in the Department of English Language and Culture) Faculty of Humanities - Department of Language and Literature Date of Publication: 7 November 2012 Indication of Salary: €3195,- to €4970,- gross per month Closing Date: 7 December 2012 Weekly Hours: 38 Vacancy Number: 12-257 To strengthen its staff, the Department for Language and Literature invites applications for an Assistant Professor in English Linguistics (in the Department of English Language and Culture). The applicant should have a Ph.D. in English Language, a strong background in English syntax, pragmatics and/or sociolinguistics, and experience in working with language corpora. The applicants will have an active research program and broad teaching experience within English language and linguistics; she/he will be expected to teach a range of BA courses and MA course(s). The ideal applicant will have been successful in the acquisition of external funding. Job Description: The successful candidate will teach and develop teaching activities both as part of and outside the programme of English Language and Culture. He or she will assist in supervising Bachelor's and Master's theses, and in co-supervising PhD candidates . The candidate will independently conduct research in the areas mentioned, resulting in contributions to leading international journals. The candidate will also be expected to help raise funds for research projects and to assist the teaching program in a variety of academic and administrative duties. Requirements: -PhD degree in English language -Experience in research and excellent research skills, evidenced by publications in books and/or in international peer-reviewed journals -Excellent teaching skills at undergraduate and graduate level -Experience in mentoring or working with students of diverse backgrounds -Experience with digital and audio-visual equipment; affinity with ICT in academic education -Team spirit and capable of functioning at all levels of more than one study programme -Organisational experience and skills -Thorough (near-) native knowledge of English and Dutch (non-native Dutch speakers must achieve fluency in Dutch within two years) Further Information: Further information about this vacancy may be obtained from: Professor Olga Fischer at the telephone number below. Appointment: The appointment will be permanent, after a period of two years on temporary basis and satisfactory performance. Preferred starting date is 1 August or 1 September 2013. The gross monthly salary will range from €3,195 (scale 11) to €4,970 (scale 12), based on a full-time appointment (38 hours a week).
