Description:
The University of Macau is a leading higher educational institution in Macao and is making strides towards becoming internationally recognized for its excellence in teaching, research and service to the community. The University is growing rapidly with a number of new strategic initiatives, including the relocation to a new campus and the establishment of the largest Residential College system in Asia. The new campus will be 20 times larger than the present one with a projected increase of 40% in student intake and faculty size. English is the University's working language. The Department of English of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities invites applications for the position of Full Professor/Associate Professor of Translation Studies. In addition to its programmes in English Studies, the department offers a new Minor programme in Translation, and a successful MA in Translation Studies, as well as doctoral studies in Translation Studies within the PhD programme in English Linguistics. The successful candidate will be expected to teach across the programmes in Translation Studies, and to supervise research at both MA and PhD levels. Candidates are expected to be internationally recognized scholars in Translation Studies, preferably with expertise in Chinese-English translation, and with an outstanding research record in both the theory and practice of translation. The successful appointee will be expected to provide academic leadership and to contribute to the administration and management of the programmes. Information about the Department of English is available at: http://www.umac.mo/fsh/de Qualifications: Applicants must hold a PhD degree in Linguistics, Translation Studies or in a related area. They should be successful university teachers, particularly gifted in supervising graduate students, and have a distinguished record of research and publication at an international level. Experience of academic management at the tertiary level, will be an advantage. While the intention is to appoint at the rank of Full Professor, an appointment may be offered at Distinguished Professor rank or at Associate Professor rank if the appointment panel considers this to be more appropriate to the candidate's qualifications. The selected candidate is expected to assume duty in August 2013. Position and Remuneration: Remuneration and appointment rank offered will be competitive and commensurate with the successful applicants' academic qualification, current position and professional experience. The current local maximum income tax rate is 12% but is effectively around 5-7% after various discretionary exemptions.
