Description:
Carleton College invites applications for a one-year visiting appointment at the rank of assistant professor in the small but enthusiastic Linguistics Department. We seek to hire a specialist in syntax and/or morphology. The Ph.D. is required by the beginning of the appointment. The successful candidate will be an excellent teacher, able to inspire very talented and hard-working undergraduate students. Carleton is on a trimester calendar, consisting of three ten-week terms. We envision that our visitor will teach courses at the introductory, intermediate, and advanced undergraduate levels. The department currently has three full-time tenure track faculty, and 21 majors. To apply, please visit the Carleton College Web site at jobs.carleton.edu and complete the online application, including a cover letter, CV, brief statements describing teaching experience, research agenda, samples of scholarship, a graduate transcript, and contact information for three letters of reference (at least one of which should address your teaching). Questions about the position or the application process may be directed to Professor Michael Flynn at the contact email address below. Applications completed, including letters of recommendation, by December 17, 2012 will receive full consideration. We plan to interview candidates at the LSA annual meeting in Boston. Carleton is committed to developing its faculty to better reflect the diversity of our student body and American society. Women and members of minority groups are strongly encouraged to apply. Carleton College does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, creed, ethnicity, religion, sex, national origin, marital status, veteran status, actual or perceived sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, status with regard to public assistance, disability, or age in providing employment or access to its educational facilities and activities.
