Meeting Description:
The last years have seen a large growth of corpora for ancient languages, some of them quite general and available online, others created ad hoc and for specific research projects. These new tools enable us to approach the study of ancient languages in more sophisticated ways, developing empirical analyses and testing theoretical analyses against large amounts of data. The PROIEL project is now organizing a conference with the aim of bringing together scholars working within this approach. Confirmed invited speakers are: Katalin Kiss (Hungarian Academy of Sciences) Silvia Luraghi (Università degli Studi di Pavia) Ann Taylor (The University of York) The conference will take place on the campus of the University of Oslo, June 14-17, 2012.
Call for Papers: We invite submissions reporting on both synchronic and diachronic work on ancient languages, including but not limited to the following topics: Discourse interpretation Information structure Syntax Semantics Statistical corpus exploration Please submit anonymous two-page abstracts to ealc-conference ifikk.uio.no by March 1, 2012. Notifications will be sent out by March 15.
