Description:
Applications are invited for the post of a postdoctoral researcher (full-time employment) in the Linguistics Department, working with Prof. Gerhard Jaeger. This vacancy is connected to the award of an ERC Advanced Grant, entitled 'Language Evolution: The Empirical Turn', for the period 2013-18. The project will be based at the University of Tuebingen. In total, the group will consist of three postdocs, two PhD students, and two student assistants. The principal activity of the postdoc will be to undertake research in one of the work packages described at the project homepage (http://www.sfs.uni-tuebingen.de/~gjaeger/evolaemp/). Previous experience in at least one of the following areas is required: - machine learning methods in language processing, esp. Hidden Markov Models and kernel methods - historical/comparative linguistics and typology
Experience in both areas would be ideal; otherwise the successful applicant is expected to actively engage in the collaborative efforts of the project and to acquire the necessary skills.
The salary is figured according to the union contract named TV-L, E13/E14, depending on professional experience.
The initial period of employment will be for 24 months, with the possibility of extension for the remaining running time of the project.
