Required Language(s): English (eng)

With its 17,500 students and 1,600 employees, of whom approximately 1,000 are engaged in scholarly work, the University of Siegen is an innovative university oriented to interdisciplinary collaboration. The university offers an excellent environment for teaching and research with its numerous interdisciplinary and trans-disciplinary research projects and broad spectrum of courses of study ranging from the humanities and social sciences to economics and to the natural sciences and engineering. The university also offers various opportunities to allow for a meaningful combination of professional and family life and, since 2006, has been awarded certification as a family-friendly educational institution and provides a dual career service.

At the University’s Faculty I (Philosophische Fakultät), a university chair position, Universitätsprofessur (salary group W3 BBesO), is currently available in the English Department/Linguistics.

Applicants must be able to integrate the full spectrum of English linguistics in accordance with international standards into their scholarly work. The focus of their research should be within the main areas of systematic linguistics in English (phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics) and encompass work on both theoretical approaches and empirical studies. Expert knowledge of an additional branch of linguistics (e.g., language acquisition, corpus linguistics, pragmatics, theory of language) is advantageous. Requirements include an excellent command of the English language, experience abroad, and successful acquisition of external funding.

Teaching and examination duties relate both to B.A. and M.A. programs in linguistics and to the linguistics-oriented segments of the teacher training program.

In addition to the basic requirements for civil servants, the prerequisites also include: a university degree; a significant aptitude for academic research, as conventionally indicated by the quality of one’s doctorate work; additional academic work which is to be exclusively and comprehensively evaluated in the course of the application review procedure; considerable teaching experience; and documented didactic competence. Additional academic work is to have been accomplished within the context of an assistant professorship, by means of post-doctorate qualifications (habilitation), or through scholarly work at a tertiary institution or a non-university research institute, or within the context of other academic work.

Applicants are expected to engage in active and constructive cooperation in the context of the university’s self-administrating committees and organizations.

The University of Siegen aims to increase the proportion of women involved in scholarly research and teaching. Applications from female academics with appropriate qualifications are welcomed. Applications from persons with disabilities who meet the required qualifications are also welcomed.
Information on the position can be obtained by correspondence through the contact information below.

Please send your application with the relevant documents (CV, copies of certificates and references, list of publications, description of research and teaching experience, list of external funds acquired, certification of teaching qualifications for tertiary institutions) by 12 June to the dean of Faculty I and cite the keywords: “English Department / Linguistics".
