Meeting Description:

The conference is the opening conference to mark the establishment of The Center for Multilingualism in Society across the Lifespan/ MultiLing, a Center of Excellence funded by the Research Council of Norway. MultiLing aims to generate scientific knowledge on individual and societal multilingualism across the lifespan that will address the opportunities and challenges multilingualism presents for the individual in the family, school, other institutions, and society in general.

The research profile of MultiLing is reflected in three mutually dependent and interrelated themes:

Theme 1: Multilingual Competence across the Lifespan
Theme 2: Multilingual Language Choice and Practices across the Lifespan
Theme 3: Management of Multilingualism across the Lifespan: Language Policy and Ideologies

The conference will consist of keynote speakers only:

Peter Auer (University of Freiburg/ Freiburg Institute for Advanced Studies, Germany)
Kees de Bot (University of Groningen, The Netherlands)
Annick De Houwer (Erfurt University, Germany)
Loraine Obler (The City University of New York, USA)
Aneta Pavlenko (Temple University, USA)
Elana Shohamy (Tel Aviv University)
Christopher Stroud (University of the Western Cape, South Africa)
Brendan Weekes (University of Hong Kong)
