Hi,

I am preparing for my master's degree in linguistics, and I would like to have sociolinguistics as my field of research. I am a little confused about a topic to choose. I am currently reading references about sociolinguistics to explore more about the field, in particular the Routledge Companion to Sociolinguistics. I want to apply it to both the Arabic and English language (p.s. I have access to speakers of both languages). I just want to be on the right track because my supervisor does not want to supervise on my thesis unless I come up with a topic. I am still new to this and I would like to be directed to resources regarding how to start, how to search, how to choose a topic, particular research methods, etc. Are there any suggestions about choosing a topic that I can explore more about?

I can be reached at sara.saber83yahoo.com

Thanks in advance,
Sara
