Position: Associate Instructor
ELS Language Centers have been providing English instruction to international students for over 50 years, focusing on the skills necessary for success in colleges, universities, and companies world-wide. Offering a collaborative and supportive environment for educators and students, the ELS Houston-Clear Lake Center is located on the University of Houston-Clear Lake campus and is comprised of a team of experienced, enthusiastic instructors who work with all levels of ESL students.
This position will plan, teach and evaluate student progress in assigned classes in accordance with the ELS curriculum with assistance from the Academic Director and experienced instructors, maintain student class records, fulfill administrative duties as required and/or requested by the Academic Director, and participate in professional development activities such as workshops and meetings.
The candidate must:
- be able to maintain a classroom environment conducive to learning
- be able to organize and teach material to reach course objectives in a timely manner
- be able to adjust teaching methods to small and large groups of students
- be able to counsel students regarding their course performance via evaluations
- have an understanding of ESL students
- be comfortable with a fast-paced environment
The ideal candidate exemplifies cultural sensitivity and enthusiasm for ESL instruction, is flexible and willing to vary teaching techniques, shows empathy for ESL learners and their academic obstacles, and has strong communication and organization skills.
Requirements for this position include an M.A. in ESL/Applied Linguistics or CELTA preferred; BA or BS required. A minimum of six months of ESL teaching experience is required.
Salary: Commensurate with experience.
