The 5th Annual Conference of the Asian Studies Irish Association (A.S.I.A.) will be held in Dublin City University on 15 and 16 November 2013. It is jointly organised by the A.S.I.A., School of Applied Language & Intercultural Studies at Dublin City University (http://www.dcu.ie/salis/news-events.shtml) and Chinese Studies at National University of Ireland, Maynooth (http://chinese.nuim.ie/news.shtml).

The theme of the conference is ‘Conflict and Communication: A Changing Asia in a Globalizing World’. We hope the conference will provide interdisciplinary study of modern and contemporary Asia.

Call for Papers:

Extended Deadline: 15 September 2013

Contributors are expected to explore the following topics to highlight the latest developments in Asian Studies. It is intended that selected papers will be published by the Book Series on Asian Studies by Rozenberg Publishers in 2014.

- Business, innovation and entrepreneurship
- Diaspora, migration and ethnicity
- International relations
- Sociology and anthropology
2. Language, history, culture and education
- Language pedagogy and linguistics
- Literature, arts and cinema
- History of Asian-Irish relations
- Comparative education between Europe and Asia
- Philosophy and religious studies
- Intercultural studies
- Media and communication
3. Translation and technology
- Theoretical reflections on translation in Ireland and Asian areas
- Pedagogical translation and interpreting
- Current trends in translation studies
- Corpus-based translation studies
- Machine translation and localization

We hope you can join us with other distinguished scholars and contribute an article for the conference. Please send the possible title of your paper and abstract (300 words) to asia2013dcugmail.com by 15 September 2013. Young researchers are particularly encouraged to submit papers for the special session of the conference.
