The Department of Spanish and Portuguese is seeking a tenure-track or tenured faculty member (depending on rank and qualifications) to teach Spanish Linguistics and coordinate the Spanish as a Second Language 100- and 200-level program.

The Spanish as a Second Language Program coordinator is responsible for supervising 25-30 Teaching Assistants who teach approximately 2500 students per academic year as well as selecting and overseeing TAs who serve as level supervisors. This faculty member will work closely with the Spanish as a Heritage Language Program coordinator to direct the instruction of 100- and 200-level Spanish language classes. The coordinator will primarily teach graduate courses, including Teaching Methodology, courses in Pedagogy and Second Language Acquisition, and special topics seminars in that faculty member's area of linguistic research. The University of New Mexico, the flagship university of a multicultural state with a 47% Hispanic population, is a Hispanic-serving Research I institution with an ethnically diverse student body. The Department of Spanish and Portuguese grants the degrees of BA, MA and PhD in Spanish and Portuguese.
