Description:

The Department of Linguistics at Georgetown University invites applications for a post-doctoral researcher specializing in Computational Methods in Linguistics (including, but not limited to, NLP, modeling, or computational corpus linguistics). We seek candidates whose research addresses the application of computational methods to testing linguistic hypotheses. The post-doc will not be pre-assigned to a particular project; we are looking for a candidate with an innovative research agenda and with the ability to engage and collaborate with one or more of the ongoing research programs in the department.

The responsibilities of the position include teaching 1 course per semester, in addition to conducting original research.

The appointment will be for the academic year 2013/2014, with the possibility of renewal for a second year, and will begin on August 1, 2013. Applicants must have completed all requirements for the PhD degree by the time of the appointment.

Georgetown University is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer. Women, minorities, veterans, and individuals with disabilities are encouraged to apply. Georgetown University is interested in applicants with experience and interest in 1) communities of color, 2) cultures other than their own, 3) culturally diverse groups and 4) developing and implementing curricula that address multicultural issues.

Applications should be sent via email in pdf format, and should be received by March 1 for full consideration. Dossiers should include a CV, a brief statement of research interests and teaching qualifications, at least one representative publication, and names and contact information for three references.

For applications and for further information, please contact Elizabeth Zsiga at the application email address below.

Note: the Georgetown Linguistics Department is seeking to fill two positions for AY 2013/14, one is a Visiting assistant Professor in Phonology and the other is a Post Doc in Computational Linguistics. Applicants should clearly indicate which position they are applying for. Individuals who may be interested in and qualified for both positions do not need to submit separate applications, but should indicate their dual expertise and interest in the cover letter and in statements of research and teaching.
