The position includes teaching and supervision at first- and second-cycle level, but also research to some extent. The holder of the position must be able to teach linguistics-oriented courses at all levels within the subject area, and supervise and examine linguistics-related essays and degree projects in German at first- and second-cycle level. In addition, the holder of the position will be expected to be able to teach in Swedish in the Department-wide language programmes.
The holder of the position will conduct research and initiate new research projects both within the subject area and in cooperation with researchers in the Department’s interdisciplinary research profiles.
The post may also include responsibilities of administrative nature.
To be eligible for the position, the applicant must hold a doctoral degree and have a research focus deemed relevant for the position. The applicant must also have demonstrated pedagogical proficiency.
Regulations for the evaluation of qualifications for academic positions are given in Chapter 4, Section 3 - 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance and in the University of Gothenburg’s Appointments Procedure. In assessment of an applicant’s qualifications, equal attention is given to teaching skills and scholarly proficiency and other relevant qualifications.
In the assessment of scholarly proficiency, particular weight is assigned to international publications.
Research interests and experience within languages and learning are also preferred.
In addition to the overall assessment of skills and potential for professional development, the hiring committee will evaluate the applicant’s predicted ability to carry out the work that the position entails, collaborate with other staff and contribute to positive development of the Department’s activities.
The selection process may involve trial lectures, interviews and the taking up of references.
In addition, if the successful applicant lacks formal training in teaching and learning in higher education, he/she will be expected to complete such training, or acquire equivalent qualifications, within two years of the employment start date.
The tenured senior lecturer is expected to often be physically present at the department and regularly participate in its work.
