Our topic this year will be “Individuals and Indeterminacy. Perspectives in Contemporary Ontology” and we are looking forward to an excellent program with some of the world’s most distinguished scholars in the field. Kit Fine (NYU), Peter van Inwagen (Notre Dame), Peter Simons (Trinity College Dublin) and Gabriele De Anna (University of Bamberg) will present their current research and discuss their recent work with graduate students from all over the world.

Additionally, all participants will be given the opportunity to propose an essay for a peer-reviewed anthology which will be published with Bamberg University Press in 2015 (Because of the peer-review process, participation in the Summer School does not, however, guarantee publication).

The Summer School is open to current graduate students in philosophy or related fields (i.e. students who already have a BA or equivalent and are currently working towards their MA or PhD/DPhil/Dr.phil). However, exceptions to this general rule can be made – please contact us if you have questions.

To apply for the program, please submit a completed application form and a short letter of motivation (500 – 2000 words) via email to applicationsummerschool-bamberg.de.

The Letter of Motivation should give a clear and concise picture of why you want to participate in the program and how the Summer School will contribute to your overarching intellectual goals. Please also be sure to include some information on your philosophical background and previous engagement with contemporary metaphysics and ontology.

The deadline for applications is April 30th, 2014. Participants will – if they are admitted – be charged a participation fee of 450 Euros. All applicants will be notified by the beginning of May 2014.
