Description:

The subject area of Turkic languages at the Department of Linguistics and Philology, Uppsala University, covers a variety of Turkic languages among which Turkish is the most important in terms of the Department’s course and study-programme offerings. The capacity to link teaching to current research in the relevant subject will be afforded weight.

To be eligible for this professorship, applicants must have documented academic qualifications in Turkic languages, including Turkish. Under the Swedish Higher Education Ordinance (HF Ch. 4 Sec. 3), an applicant is qualified for the position of professor if he or she has demonstrated both academic and teaching competence.

In judging academic competence, much consideration will be afforded to research qualifications specialising in linguistic and philological aspects of Turkic languages. Besides Turkish, academic competence in other non-Oghuz Turkic languages will be a qualification.

The ability to teach in Swedish or English is a requirement. If the holder is unable to teach in Swedish, he or she will be expected to be able to do so within two years.
