Description: We invite applications for one three-year position of Chair in the Dept. of Central European studies (covering Poland, Slovakia, and Hungary). The applicant must hold a degree in humanities, specializing in one of the three philologies within the scope of the department (i.e., Polish, Slovak, or Hungarian). Good working knowledge of English and at least passive knowledge of Czech (or Slovak) are expected, familiarity with another language of the region would be welcome.

Application requirements:
- CV, including bibliography and a summary of teaching experience.
- Statement of vision for further growth of the department, both in its scholarly and teaching development (max. 10 pages, offering at least a 3-year outlook); the statement should also address the relationship between the areal and philological approaches to the department’s organization.

Specific issues addressed in the statement:
a) Assessment of the current state of the department
b) Plans for academic personnel development
c) Development of the teaching program, its content and organization
d) Plans for the department’s research direction
e) Outlook for the general development of the department (its structure, possible ways for broadening/enriching its current profile including the question of integrating Roma Studies, etc.)

The earliest starting date of the job: Oct 1, 2014, a later start can be negotiated.
