Can anyone provide references to works which deal with the structure of the noun phrase in Old or Middle English within Generative Grammar? I am particularly interested in discussions of whether or not the noun phrase in Old English had a flat structure and if it did, how it developed the hierarchical structure of Modern English. I have looked through the literature and have found next to nothing. Any suggestions would be welcome.
