I address myself to French specialists. >From my interest in the functioning of French -schwa- (i.e. "mute e") has necessarily evolved a need to know: which consonant clusters (or `complex consonants', as I prefer to regard them) are a) possible or b) impossible in i) syllable-initial or ii) syllable-final position. I have no wish to duplicate work in this non-finite area. I shall be glad to know of any work on these questions. Of course, I know of standard works on -schwa-, including Valdman. _______________________________________________________________________________ Dr Wm Bennett WAB2Mail to author|Respond to list|Read more issues|LINGUIST home page|Top of issueuk.ac.cam.phx
I would be grateful for any pointers (or, even better, quotes) to definitions of "iconicity". The language of the definition should be French (first pref- erence) or English.Mail to author|Respond to list|Read more issues|LINGUIST home page|Top of issue
