Could the responses on the 2nd language acqu. textbook be summarized for
the list? The summary (basically an annotated bibliography) of texts for
discourse analysis was much appreciated; something similar would be nice.

Ellis, Rod 1985. Understanding SLA. OUP &
Ellis, Rod 1990. Instructed SLA. Blackwell
summarises a great deal of the field if you're looking for a single text
book which as always is a problem. I haven't had time to look at Long &
Larsen-Freeman's new book on Research in SLA, and I believe CooK, V. has
a new book out that may be suitable, not his one UG. Try posting your query
to List SLART, the SLA hangout, and you'll get more help. None of these
are ideal.
