Dear Colleagues,

I would like to thank you all for an interesting year
on the Linguist List.

Reading all the good news in the New Years Greetings
from Helen and Anthony, it came to my mind that making proceedings
from conferences, workshops and meetings available in electronic form
would be a great service to the scientific community.

Not only would electronic proceedings in ASCII format be a blessing
to 'lone linguists', but this format would also allow a variety
of novel ways to access the material. Conferences held at great
geographic distance would gain from a world wide attendance, and
broader discussions on the net could be genuinely fruitful long after
the conference is all over.

Looking forward to hear all of you who are regularly
arranging conferences, or are planning to do so in the future.
