The inaugural Institute at Sydney University drew over 300 participants from Australia and overseas. The 1994 Institute will have courses ranging from introductory to advanced level. Courses planned include Australian Aboriginal languages, Papuan languages, American Indian languages, phonology, syntax, psycholinguistics, language and gender, discourse analysis, second language acquisition, and bilingualism. There will also be one-day workshops on selected topics. Accommodation will be in Glenn and Chisolm Colleges, both set on the La Trobe campus of 196 hectares of landscaped grounds. La Trobe University is located 15km north of the central business district of Melbourne and 20km from its international airport.
