Since this recent film about Chomsky has attracted some attention on the
list, I thought I would pass along the following notice from a national
Canadian newspaper on its appearance at the Berlin Film Festival:
"We've sold _Manufacturing Consent_ to 12 European countries, including
Spain, Holland, Norway," [Peter] Wintonick [one of the film's producers]
said. "Several weeks ago, it was big success on Finnish TV."
Already Canada's all-time documentary box-office champ, _Manufacturing
Consent_, played to three huge, packed houses in Berlin. "We came a week
in advance, and brought 20,000 flyers," said [Mark] Achbar [the other
producer]. "At a Telefilm party, so many people were wearing our button,
including bouncers and guards, that people wanted to know if it was our
party," laughed Wintonick. Each Berlin screening ended with thank-yous
from the audience, and impassioned questions about American linguist and
political activist Chomsky ("When does he have time for it all? When does
he sleep? Does he ever lose an argument?").
