Does anyone know of any service/network that permits its subscribers to dial in to a local node and connect to a computer on the Internet? I live in New York and would like to work on a computer in Philadelphia (on which I have an account), but the long-distance telephone rates are too high. I would be quite happy to pay reasonable service fees in order to avoid the long-distance telephone calls. If anyone comes up with a good suggestion, I'll post the response to the Linguist List. Dear LINGUIST subscribers - I'm interested in finding out about taped material for phonetics teaching (such as the material available through UCLA, for example). In particular, I'd like to hear about complete courses of instruction if any exist (in the manner of the old Smalley material). I would be happy to provide a summary for LINGUIST. We have in our lab here taped material (word lists, minimal pairs, other phonetically significant material, plus reading and spontaneous speech) of native speakers of around fifty languages. If anyone is interested in obtaining copies, perhaps we can work out a trade for material you might have. I can send a list of what we've got if I know who you are. Please address replies directly to <dobrovolMail to author|Respond to list|Read more issues|LINGUIST home page|Top of issueacs.ucalgary.ca> With thanks, - Michael Dobrovolsky
I'm looking for information about the acoustic correlates of emotions in speech. Eventually, I'd like to apply this information to synthetic speech. Any suggestions about where I should start? Thanks, DebbieMail to author|Respond to list|Read more issues|LINGUIST home page|Top of issue
