Our department is likely to be mounting a course on writing systems
and literacy. We would be grateful to anyone who could send us helpful
information in developing this: syllabuses, bibliographies, course
outlines, essay topics, etc.

Thanks

Henry Rogers

Subject: The Late Language Technology/Electric Word (LT) Magazine

Hello

Up until May/June 1990, I was receiving a publication that had gone
through various incarnations: Language Technology, LT, and finally
Electric Word. This magazine was produced in The Netherlands, and
was last heard seen trying to find itself another publisher. I have
written to the old publisher (Language Technology, Media Nederland BV)
and the US distributer (Expediters of the PrintedWord Ltd., NY), and
have even FAXed and telephoned the former offices in Amsterdam,
all to no avail.

Electric Word was a wonderful, eclectic collection of snippets and
articles on miscellaneous topics having to do with things like machine
translation, computer-assisted language instruction, electronic notebooks,
speech recognition, etc. It was full of great information, presented
in an irreverent -- "zany" comes to mind -- style.

Does anyone know if Electric Word has reappeared in any other form,
under a different title, perhaps? Or is there another publication
that deals with similar topics?

Dear LINGUISTS,

We are thinking of buying new tape recorders for our department. They will
be primarily used for taping natural conversation, plus subsequent
transcription of the tapes. Since we have little expertise re the current
developments on this market we would like to know which recorders are
recommendable for our purposes (and at what prices).

Thank you very much in advance.

On behalf of a student, I'm writing to inquire whether anyone on LINGUIST
has an address for Nili Mandelblit. If you can help us, please respond to me
personally. My thanks in advance.
