I've always been interested in deixis in English, and I've got a few questions to ask. Could anyone please give me your answers? 1. I found the following conversation in some English textbook; Man: What about coming out to dinner with me tomorrow night? Woman: That's a nice idea. Why 'coming out' rather than 'going out' in this case? 2. Suppose you're reading a paper on, say, linguistics. You find a doubtful statement in the paper. You talk to yourself. Do you say; a) How's this? b) How's that? c) Both I would really appreciate your response. Hello, I'm starting to work with Linguistic Labels within technical and scientific domains. I'm interested in dealing with expressions like: " The line "r" passes through the point ..." " A function "f" is called even iff f(x)=f(-x)" " Determine mean "m", modo "xm", median "x0.5" of the distribution ..." " The electric resistance "R" of resistors produced by certain machine..." so, I would thank very much all kind of references (articles, books, works and so on) that you could send me not only for the domain but also any other related works. Please reply directly to me and I'll send a summary to the linguist list. I look foward to receive your help. Thank you for your colaboration.Mail to author|Respond to list|Read more issues|LINGUIST home page|Top of issue
Is any of you now serving as editor of a journal that devotes some, or all, of its space to cognitive linguistics? Or, do some of you, though not editors, have up-to-date subscription information on such journals, or addresses of officers of related organizations, either national in scope or international? I would appreciate any leads you may be able to give me. Please send the information directly to me at either of these addresses: Dr. Lewis P.
