FIRST CIRCULAR

The English Department of the University of Turku will be hosting
a conference on

 * Turku, Finland *
 * 11 - 14 August, 1994 *
 *********************************************************

Sections are planned on topics dealing with linguistic aspects of textual
organization in, for example, speech and writing, and in narrative and
scientific discourse. Papers are invited on questions relevant to such topics.

The plenary speakers will be Douglas Biber, Svetla Cmejrkova,
Nils Erik Enkvist, Jan Firbas, Michael Hoey, and Eija Ventola.

Please send your preliminary registration by 31 August, 1993 to the organizing
committee; e-mail sakatasara.utu.fi.

The second circular will be sent in the autumn of 1993 to those who have
sent in their preliminary registration. It will include information on the
deadline for abstracts and the conference fees and other costs.
