I'm attempting to find out syntactic movement constraints in Russian in a
reasonably standard (no offense) GB framework. I've read in passing a claim
that subjacency bounding nodes (in a pre-Barriers framework) in Russian might
be {NP, IP, CP}, which would explain the impossibility of successive cyclic
movement, as in:
(1a) Ivan skazal, kogo Anna ljubit.
(1b) *Kogo Ivan skazal, cto Anna ljubit?
(2a) Ivan said who Anna likes.
(2b) Who did Ivan say that Anna likes?
If anyone has any information on this or any related effects, please let
me know. Thanks in advance.
