Can anyone suggest teaching materials (books, tapes) on American English pronunciation?Mail to author|Respond to list|Read more issues|LINGUIST home page|Top of issue
I wish to raise a query about Robustness of the Language Faculty and code-switching input; and comment on Alexis Manaster Ramer's suggestion about contacting co0nference presenters. On the second first, there would be merit in being able to contact conference presenters via email. I have sometimes seen paper titles which seem to bear on my own research interests, but I have had little success at contacting the presenter through the conference organisers or the institutionof the presenter. This is not the kind of query that should fill up Linguist'd valuable space, either. In the case of the present query, the target is more vague: the hope that someone at the conference on Robustness and the Language Faculty might be interested in the area; perhaps the conference organisers could put my message on the bulletin board (physical, I mean, rather than electronic) of the conference. I have copied this message to the Robustness conference organisers. My query is this: I am interested in the question of what level of "mixing" of languages in early childhood input (i.e. pervasive intrasential code-switching) still allows the child to contruct a reasobale replica of the adult model grammars of (either of) the languages "mixed". I have worked with a number of Australian Aboriginal groups where such situations seem to lead to different results: language maintenance, language shift, and "mixed language". For one of my classes in linguistic analysis I am looking for Japanese texts in Roman alphabet, accompanied by English translation. I would be grateful for any library resources, and especially for any material that could be sent via e-mail. Experts on Japanese syntax who would be willing to communicate occasionally with us, please advise me of your e-mail address. Thanx. evelyn etoddMail to author|Respond to list|Read more issues|LINGUIST home page|Top of issuetrentu.ca
